Grooming for Jumbo
Usually when I go over to Joyce's grooming salon, it's to hang out with her and the dogs. Sometimes I help out, bugging her to teach me how to do this/that. I do the simple basic grooming like shampooing, drying, nail-cutting and ear-cleaning. Joyce wields her pair of trusty scissors and grooms each dog to perfection. The only times I'd ever tried my hand at the shaver, it was on her own dogs (when they were still puppies). Joyce has never made me feel like I was in the way, and she would always readily agree to teach me how to do certain things and WHY I should do it that way. I swear one day I am going to sit down and focus on this pet-grooming business without any distractions (not even the worry of being broke without a full-time job).
So my last visit was a little different, because Jumbo came along for his grooming. You never realise just HOW BAD a dog is in need of grooming until you see the "before" and "after", do you? Like I've stressed countless times before, Jumbo doesn't belong to me. Sadly, the owner he does belong to doesn't really take care of him fully. This was how he looked like, the morning before he was off to the grooming salon:
:/ I guess "scruffy" would be an understatement in this sense.
Bundled him and my mum into a cab, and arrived at Joyce's in the afternoon. The moment I stepped in, all the dogs started barking their heads off as usual. And once my back was turned, there was a freakin' loud crash. Turned back to find this catastrophic scene:
=.= The whole basket of grooming tools that was left atop a cage fell off when one of the dogs started going berserk upon spotting me.
Before sending him to the shower, Joyce tried to comb out the tangles in Jumbo's fur but it was too difficult. Hell, his fur was so tangled up that even Joyce had trouble running the shaver through. She had to use a big one. So much for keeping his fur long. It was an almost complete shave-down:
Jumbo was terrified, of course. Especially when he was placed in the bathtub for his shower. He looks really pathetic soaked!:
While Joyce's colleague gave Jumbo his shower, Joyce set upon working on this Japanese Spitz her customer brought in:
Check out how much of a perfectionist Joyce can be when it comes to trimming!:
See those sores on the Spitz's body? Yeah, hate people who don't take care of their dogs properly.
Me, I let this standard poodle out of her cage to play! HAHAHA. Her name is Bella!!!!!:
To be honest, all the poodles I've met before were really mini. Jumbo is a poodle, and he's really small compared to Bella, of course. She is the first one I can actually hug with my arms spread wide. And she also has a pink ribbon clip on her ear! LOL. That's too cute. Me and Bella, the girly dog. ^_^:

One of the random dogs there I took a picture of... Couldn't help but notice him because he kept yipping!:
Lo and behold, Jumbo's fur after he was blasted with the dryer:
LOLOLOLOLLL!!!! His fur totally went boomz! And you see him panting so hard because he kept struggling. Not used to the surroundings = panic mode.
You can see how messy his fur is without proper grooming:
Joyce working her magic on Jumbo:
At the end of it all, Jumbo turned out looking just as smart as I expected him to be! Look how rounded his paws are! LOL:
Final result, with doggy perfume spray and all:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. SUPER DUPER ROUND! Told you Joyce was good! ;)
At the end of the day, all that struggling and panicking totally took its toll on him....:
It was well worth it, really! Just put the "before" and "after" pictures side-by-side and you'd see what I mean!:
You don't know how much of an upkeep a dog like Jumbo needs, with grooming and all. And he's already so tiny. Imagine a large breed that needs grooming every month. So, this is one of the reasons stupid people abandon their dogs because they don't realise how much of a commitment it is to send their dog for grooming. You don't just consider the "cute factor" when buying a dog, I can't stress that enough. And adopting is always a better option, remember that. Lots of poor dogs looking for a loving home out there. Give them a second chance. They all deserve one. <3
