I went for Marie Digby's showcase/concert at the Arena Clarke Quay yesterday night. Alone. It was the same day I arrived back from Hungary and I didn't manage to ask around before who would wanna tag along, so it was quite a last-minute thing on that same day and no one could make it. I didn't mind going alone though, the concert wasn't overwhelmingly huge-scale. Which in fact, I liked better 'cos it's cosier that way. =) Talking about the celeb, not the rest of the concert goers who are practically strangers! I was a little late though, because I overslept. =( Can't blame me, jetlagged!
So anyway, I've been wanting to meet Marie Digby for a long time but I didn't know she was coming the last time she came, so I missed that. =/ This time, I was informed way before because Ross organised it and he did ask me what I thought of Marie Digby. And of course, my response was full of enthusiasm. So imagine my reaction when he told me he was bringing her in. =D Thank you Ross! Calvin introduced me to Marie on Youtube and I've been following her ever since. That was way before she was discovered by her record company. It's an honour to finally be able to see her perform. =)
Pictures of the lovely Marie Digby from the equally lovely show:
And of course, videos! =) I have 2 here:
Umbrella
Say It Again
She's goooood. Her voice is just so pure and sweet. You really cannot deny real talent. And now for the picture of the day...:
;) Ross gave me a poster so I could go on stage for her autograph 'cos sadly, I was so broke, I didn't have enough money to buy her CD that was on sale outside. I feel so bad about that, especially when everyone went up on stage with a CD and a poster but I only got the latter. (T_T) I hope Marie didn't think I didn't appreciate her music... I DO! So much. But I had my reasons. =( The autograph queue wasn't THAT long, but I queued for more than an hour because Marie was really taking her own sweet time with everyone. Now I don't mean that in a bad way, because I LOVE the way she was being so genuine. Come my turn, our conversation went like that:
Me: Hiii! Marie: Hiiiii!! Nice to meet you! Me: Nice to meet you! Marie: *signs poster* Me: *crosses over to the other side of the table for the picture* Marie: You're so pretty!!! Me: *totally didn't expect that* Oh! Thank you! *picture taken* Marie: Thank you so much for coming! Me: You're welcome! You're amazing! Marie: Thank you, so much. Me: Can I have a hug, please? Marie: Sureee!!!! *gives me a big, fat hug and grabs my hands* Your hands are so cold!!!! Me: *grinning* Yeahhh... Thank you so much, take care. Marie: Thank you, byeee! Me: *still grinning* Bye!!
As you can see, a lot of "thank yous" and a lot of exclamations. Haha. No, I'm serious! She's so enthusiastic and so genuine, she exclaims a lot. I was smiling from ear to ear after I met her. It's just so..... refreshing to meet a celebrity so, so humble! I have no words for her except that she's amazing, really amazing. I'm kinda speechless. And it's sweet how she said I was pretty when she herself is so pretty, you know?! You know when Jolin has her autograph sessions, she would plaster that same sour smile on her face, sign your CD and glance at you and that's it. Sometimes she won't even glance at you. And when you wanna attempt to shake her hand, her minder would smack it away. I got that before, yes. AND if you're ever so lucky to get a handshake, it's a limp one. Obviously no hugs and no conversations, no nothing. Unlike Marie Digby. Wow, she's just the nicest person ever. She actually speaks to you like you matter, and I think that's a wonderful thing to do. I believe she touched every person there in their own special way that night. =)
I listen to the same old songs from Marie Digby, but through the showcase I found a couple of new songs that I liked. Check these out:
Avalanche (I LOVE this song!)

Alright, enjoy! Marie Digby is love. I hope she'd stay as real as she is now and forever and I wish her all the best. XOXOXOXOXOXXXXXXX ♥♥♥
I'm going to Hungary tomorrow night to film Grid Girls on Tour, along with Wei Ling and Desiree. Will be gone for a week. I have my schedule, it's crazy packed. Trust me when I say it's a WORK trip. But I'd try to have fun, especially when I just fell sick with flu before and now I'm having diarrhea. I know, it sucks. And on top of that, I'm all PMS-ey. Really, I am. There's this ball in my throat and suddenly I feel super shitty about having to leave my dogs back home while I take off again. I wish someone could understand how hard it is for me to leave my babies. And a lot of other things that are not convenient to spill out here. So it's a week without my dogs, a whole week without watching The L Word (current show obsession, among others), a whole week without my friends and a Thursday without going routine clubbing. On the flip-side, it's a whole week of new experiences and culture.
I do know one thing I definitely wanna get, though - Avril's Black Star perfume. HEHEHE. It's already in Hungary and it's not even in America yet! Woohoo. Will be meeting up with Wenqing there, for one night only. One of the hotels I'm staying at is just ONE minute away from her house by car. God is really kind! I just hope I won't be too tired from all that filming.
So anyways, JEANNE CHANG, I know you're looking at this. This is a public plea to you, to please fulfill the enormous duty of being a sister to me and a caretaker to my dogs. It's not that enormous a duty actually, because I've been doing the former since I was born and the latter for more than 10 years. I'm sure 1 week won't kill you.
Now with that aside, it's time for some proper updates.
Did a quick fashion show for Rumah Bebe again on Saturday. This time, the venue was a little... unique. Our runway was a red carpet in the middle of East Coast Lagoon. Yes! The hawker centre that I always used to go to when I was a kid. My dad would bring the whole family and my mum would queue up for all of us just to get the wanton mee. Yums. Now it's been renovated and they have all these wooden walkways. One of them served as our runway. Imagine that! The other day at rehearsals, everyone was looking and wondering why it was so weird that the same batch of girls are walking up and down. =.=
Was working with the same old people. We turned up at Bebe's store in East Coast for hair and makeup first. I like that store a lot because it's just bursting with Peranakan culture. There is SO much stuff that you don't know where to look first! And they're all colourful! And very much expensive, haha. With Jaselin, who's very much mad like me:
My outfit for the night:
With Grace and Jaselin:
All of us girls - Gina, Grace, Jaselin, me, Mandy and June:
A few pics from the show:
With the stilt-walkers:
Thank you Timothy, for turning up to take those pictures at such short notice! =)
Met up with Cheryl and Chermaine for coffee in town before I fly off tomorrow:
They're such nice people. Bitch, gossip, gush - you name it, we can do it. Haha. I have a few more pictures from that set but we look like shit because it's all candid, so no way am I posting them here!
Chermaine wrote me a random letter and I read it in front of her, LOL:
That's so sweet, right? The last time I received something like that, I was like, what? In primary school?! But it's sweet, really. And she put it in such a pretty envelope too!:
Thank you so much, babe. You made me smile. =) See all of you when I'm back! xxxx
*P.S: Do you all remember Tripod the 3-legged dog?
Well, he's all grown-up now, his Demodex is gone and he's been renamed "Trip" by his new owner. And he's very much blessed and happy! I almost cannot recognise him now with his ears up!:
After A WHOLE LOT of procrastinating and postponing, Rachel and I finally went to the zoo!!!! X) Thanks to Suren and his uncle, we were guests. =P Really! We had stickers that said so. Haha. So the 4 of us - Rachel, Suren, Joel and me - we had a great fun day at the zoo, one of my favourite places in the world! Now that I'm back, I miss it already!
Outside Ben & Jerry's:
The very first animals we saw were Cotton Top Tamarins!:
They were adorable. And then it was on to the squawking loud parrots!:
The ugly Proboscis monkey:
Honestly, do their dicks always have to be out?! =X Moving on to the otters - I never ever get sick of watching them! =D:
I love it how they would come up in the front and start crying out to you. I don't know why they do that! But it's so endearing that I had to take a video!:
LOL!!! Can somebody tell me why they're so, so flippin' adorable?! If only I could bring one home as a pet! Haha. For now, I make do with this!!:
Which sane person would not visit the tigers at the Tiger Trek when visiting the zoo? =):
Tiger loves Breadtalk, so Suren fed it Breadtalk. LOL:
The famous white tigers which made international headlines for mauling a man to death:
LOL, PEEING. In the WATER, hahaha:
I think Mummy Hippo just had a new arrival! Awww, this is so SWEET!:
Both of them were sleeping, but the mother has got the baby's back even in slumber. I love animals and their instincts. =) We saw a lizard of some sort crossing the road, and I freaked out because it belonged to the LIZARD family and it was HUGE! Can you spot it in the grass? *sHuDdErS*:
We sat in on the animal shows. They separated it into 2 parts now, sort of. Carlos the sealion is in the "Splash!" show now and they have a new one called "Saving the Rainforest" or something like that. We arrived like, half an hour early and Suren and Joel went to "explore" while Rachel and I sat in the front row to reserve the seats. The guys ended up going on free elephant rides. Rachel and I didn't manage to. =( I was looking forward to overcoming my slight fear of elephants actually. And I know we should have gone with the dudes because the show was crappy and we sat in the front for nothing. =.= Me and Rachel waiting for the crappy show to start:
I've never seen white peacocks in my entire life, it was my first time! They are SO gorgeous!!:
I reckon they look more beautiful than the normal blue-green ones. Love them!
Meet Mr Mumbler - we didn't know what the hell he was narrating:
A picture with the cast and their boa constrictor after the show. =):
I was looking forward to the "Splash!" show because I was excited to see Carlos! =D Before the show started, we entertained ourselves by watching penguins shitting in the water.... It looked like egg whites. =.= *gAgS*:
Manatee!:
Caretaker feeding the manatees:
And finally, Carlos! =D:
Thanks to me and Joel, Rachel got picked to throw a Frisbee to Carlos just because we grabbed her hands and put it in the air. *sNiCkErS*:
Carlos waiting VERY attentively for his Frisbee!:
And he caught it!!!:
The rest of the pictures depict another Frisbee thrown by another guy, but obviously he kept on missing Carlos and poor Carlos had to wait for it several times before he finally got it!:
See, the Frisbee fell into the water and Carlos still went after it!:
We all got kisses from dear Carlos after the show. =) Every single time I go to the zoo, I get a kiss. Carlos makes me grin as wide as the universe, he's so adorable:
We were the last few people to get kisses, and Carlos' caretaker Julie was actually panicking because she ran out of fish. It sounded like pure panic in her voice when she kept on saying, "I've got no more fish already!!!" and tried her best to distract Carlos after every kiss. It's quite obvious that these animals get food rewards and when food runs out, I wonder if they'd throw a fit? I wonder if that's why Julie was so panicky? I wonder if Carlos might bite or something? Either way it was quite alarming. It made me a little guilty too, that all Carlos does is put on show after show and we're the same old people asking for kisses. =/
My friends wanted to check out the elephant show after that even though I wasn't very keen. I'd seen it tons of times already, and I knew everything that was gonna happen. So I just stood around eating a strawberry Cornetto ice-cream. =P But the elephants were cute nonetheless. I remember Komali, I think he's quite the resident elephant. Haha.
Who says they are big AND clumsy?!:
This random baby girl was more interested in looking back at us than at the elephants in the front. LOL:
Suren and Joel concentrating HARD on the show, haha:
I caught a shot of this random green-and-yellow spider on the wood... It was on a baby pram, then on Rachel (eeww!) and then on the wood. Gross:
A corner to remember Ah Meng:
Suren's uncle was Ah Meng's caretaker for 37 long years. Can you imagine how gutted he must have felt when Ah Meng passed away? SIGH. I guess it's the other orang-utans' turn to continue Ah Meng's legacy. Maybe this baby?:
Cute, right? =)
Suren got caught by a crocodile..... I think he's still at the zoo!:
All of us:
Chimpanzees - they look so black and scary.... and I heard they actually remember you if you ever offend them?!:
Another mother and baby!:
We moved on to the children's zoo after that. They've renovated it and renamed it "KidzWorld". It's all colourful and all the relatively tame animals are there. A horse carriage!:
Meet Belle. =):
Black and yellow millipede!:
I actually Googled and its scientific name is called Apheloria tigana. HEHEHE. See, Google tells you EVERYTHING you need to know! LoL.
Baaaaa:
Okay, THIS is by far the sweeeetest calf I've ever seen, okay?!?!?!!:
It actually came over when we called for it! I swear! Look!!!:
And what's this CREEPY sight doing in a children's zoo?!:
We did some old-folks visiting, hahahaha:
The grandma's wax finger was broken. =S We didn't break it! Actually it's a house they built for kids to learn about common pests. There were fake bed bugs too, and also THIS:
MUAHAHAHA, that's a present for my sister! I know, I'm evil. We were running around like kids ourselves, checking out giant rabbits!:
And cute little chicks in their incubator!:
Ben & Jerry's toppings, yum yum:
Had a stopover at KFC for food before we made our last few rounds to the rest of the enclosures, but most of the animals had been led back inside as the day zoo was closing. =/ Check out the tarantula:
On the rainforest walk?:
The eyes of the mousedeer flamed THREE colours when I took this shot, it's so pretty!:
Bats:
Free-flying butterflies - they land on your finger when you stick it out and stand still! Try it next time!:
Broken wings. =(:
The sloth!:
Lemurs, famous from Madagascar!:
Rachel and Suren were squatting on the floor with my camera for those shots, and then suddenly all of the lemurs decided to jump forwards. Rachel screamed. We thought it was the camera flash that agitated them and we panicked and wanted to run, but turned out it was actually the zoo-keeper coming up behind us with food. -_________-
I forgot the name of this cat, but it looked PISSED because it was pacing fast, back and forth, back and forth:
Zebras:
Sleeping rhino!:
Rhino dung, eurrggghhhh!:
Had some last few moments of fun at the glow-in-the-dark section of the merchandise store:
You know, I've been to the zoo so many times that it feels like home now. I mean, I could totally see myself working there. And I'd love to, if I stayed nearer to the zoo! It's a real pity I'm so far away. =( I love visiting the same old animals to see how they're doing, I love observing my favourite ones. The stinkiest animal I know are the wolves. My GOD, the scent they give off to mark their territory is so choking, it's hard to breathe. Other than that, the rest are bearable. Haha. I've been to the zoo and the Night Safari enough times to know a handful of animals by name, and that's the way I like it. =) I can't wait to go back again! =D
